After graduating from the University of Sas-
katchewan as a Doctor of Veterinary Medi-
cine (DVM) in 1984, Brent spent a year
working at a mixed animal clinic in Vermil-
lion with both big and small animals. Alt-
hough he grew up in a rural farming com-
munity in Alberta, Brent soon realized work-
ing with companion animals (a.k.a. pets)
was his passion. He began working at the
General Veterinary Hospital in Edmonton,
where he thrived on problem-solving,
diagnostic workups, surgery and medicine.
That was 30 years ago, and today as a
general practitioner Brent still loves his job
more than ever. He is most passionate
about his exceptional patients.
“We veterinarians have tremendous
patients. They don’t complain, and they’re so grateful for the help they
receive.”
At Currents, Brent is excited to be back working in general practice after
being in emergency medicine for the past 10 years. His favorite part of
the job is seeing pets grow up within a family, seeing the enjoyment that
families get from their companions, and watching pets grow to their full
age.
Brent is very involved in the Edmonton community. He is a past board
member of the Edmonton Association of Small Animal Veterinarians, and
past president of the ABVMA. He is a past advisory committee member
of both NAIT and Lakeland College's Animal Health Technology
programs. He's a past board member of the Alberta SPCA and past pres-
ident of Guardian Veterinary Centre and the Edmonton Veterinary Emer-
gency Clinic. He currently sits on the Hearings Tribunal of the
ABVMA. WDDC welcomes Dr. Brent Jackson as one your Center’s
newest board members.
Lloyd
graduated from the University of Alberta in 1972 with a B.Sc of
Agriculture (Animal Science) and then received his DVM from the
Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. He returned back to
Edmonton and entered into Small Animal Practice at the General
Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Kenneth Abbey and Dr. George
MacQuarrie. Lloyd became an owner in 1981 and still practices fulltime
with four associate Veterinarians. He enjoys Orthopedic Surgery,
Rehabilitation Medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and General
Surgery. It is exciting the new innovations and technology that we see
in Veterinary Medicine today and new services we can provide to
our patients.
Throughout his career he has strived for excellence in Practice and has
given back to the profession by being involved at all levels of Veterinary
Medicine. In the veterinary Community, Lloyd has been a Board
member and President of Edmonton Association of Small Animal
Veterinarians, Chairman of The Practice Inspection and Practice
Standards of the ABVMA. Served for 10 years as Chairman of Practice
Standards and Membership as well as a Regional Director for the
American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). He was a founding
member of WDDC in 1983 and was a previous Board member and Past
Chairman of the Board of WDDC.
I have always maintained a special interest
in Veterinary Management and have been
an active Member of the Veterinary
Management (Leadership) Group since
1994 that was started by a like minded
group of Veterinarians’ through the AAHA.
In
returning to the Board, I hope to bring
emerging ideas in Veterinary Business
Models and Management to WDDC and its
Members. I am very excited to have been
chosen to return and work with the incredi-
ble WDDC Management Team and The
Board.

Dr. Ken Wright was born and raised in Southern Alberta. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in
Biochemistry with Work Co-op from the University of Lethbridge in 2001. His Co-op involved
antimicrobial resistance in beef cattle at the Research Station in Lethbridge. He then obtained his
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. Upon
graduation in 2005 he and his wife Natalie moved to Claresholm where they fell in love with the
small community and all that it entails. His main area of interest is Beef Cattle production but loves
the variety of Mixed Practice and the challenges it brings. When not working he is chasing his four
boys around with athletics or hunting with his dog Abby.
WDDC welcomes Dr. Ken Wright as one of your Center’s newest board members.
