Important shipping of vaccines information
WDDC has and continues to make a significant investment in expanding its dedicated fleet of ambient
temperature controlled vehicles to ensure timely and safe deliveries to our members. To further improve
service and safety of product delivery we have also adopted the Pre-Qualified Packaging techniques and
methods of the Canadian Blood Services Agency. This will have us packaging the refrigerated products using a
combination of warm ice packs (room temperature), conditioned ice packs (stored in fridge 2-8 degrees
Celsius), and frozen ice packs (-20 degrees Celsius). This packaging configuration will change by the season
with the objective of maintaining the 2-8 degrees Celsius temperature inside the tote or box.
This winter, once the temperature drops below -10 degrees Celsius the packaging configuration you will see is
pre-conditioned ice packs 2-8 degrees Celsius
(not frozen)
which will surround the refrigerated product and
maintain the temperature within the desired range of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. We will then surround the condi-
tioned 2-8 degree gel packs with packing void filler (paper) and then surround this with
room temperature
gel packs
which will act as an insulating barrier.
There will not be frozen ice packs used in the winter
packaging configuration
. The number and quantity of gel packs used will vary depending on temperature
extremes and length of time required in transit.
Please inform your staff of these packaging protocols to avoid any unnecessary returns, spoilage and waste
for you and your Center. Should you have any questions regarding the Pre-Qualified & Validated Packaging
Procedures, please do not hesitate to contact your Center at 877-746-9332.
What to do if you receive frozen product…
Our revised packing policies and the continued
improvements to ambient temperature controlled
deliveries have greatly reduced the instance of
frozen products arriving at your clinic however, not
all carriers provide heated service nor do they
compensate WDDC for damage due to freezing.
Experience has shown that when the temperature
drops down to roughly -20°C liquids and perishable
items are highly susceptible to freezing in a short
period of time. If you have received frozen
product in a delivery from WDDC contact our
Customer Service Department at 877-746-9332
immediately. We will determine the best course of
action depending on the circumstance and provide
instructions on how to handle the return for a speedy
credit.
